Although it has all the carbs and proteins in the right place, the Japanese rice hamburger is a lot healthier and a lot more fun to make than your average hamburger. You can often see these types of burgers in a Japanese fast food chain called Mos Burger. They have many specialty Asian hamburgers such as the teriyaki burger or the kakiage rice burger (which is similar to what I’ve made today). Certain McDonalds in Asia have also started serving up a similar concoction that they like to call “McRice.”

You will need:

Patties

  • 8 oz of ground pork, beef, or chicken
  • 2 tbsp light soysauce
  • 1/4 cup of panko (Japanese bread crumbs) or regular bread crumbs (this will give the patties more substance and make them less mushy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch or potato starch
  • 1 egg
